JUMP BALL: Create Your Own Basketball Franchise
Grades: 4, 5
Description: Students come together to form two teams, which they will name, create a logo, design jerseys, make a basketball card, and build a mascot, all while playing pickup games with each other. Co-Led by Kenneth Andrade, Founder, Program Director and Head Coach & Trainer of NJ Stars Elite AAU and accomplished concept artist John Sahin.
Dates: Thursdays: Oct 9, Oct 16, Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 21, and Dec 5 (no class Nov 6, Nov 20 or Nov 27). Final exhibition December 12, 7-9pm.

MATERIAL MAGIC: Transforming Everyday Objects Into Art
Grades: 1, 2, 3
Description: A joyful exploration of transformation and reuse for grades 1-3. Students will explore techniques such as eraser printing, felting, papermaking, papier-mâché sculpture, woodworking, and cyanotype printing. Led by Katey Darago of Oakland Rd. Art Club.

PROUD TO BE ME!: Feeling Great About Yourself
Grades: 1, 2, 3
Description: Pairing reading picture books with fun, creative projects that celebrate each student’s individuality, build confidence, and develop courage for grades 1-3. Young children will gain a foundation of learning to value oneself and be appreciated by their peers. Led by superstar former longtime Hazel kindergarten teacher Phyllis Seibert.

SONIC BOOM: Perform Your Own Music
Grades: 3, 4, 5
Description: For grades 3-5, an interdisciplinary performance class where students form a group, write original songs, use novel keyboard and synthesizer instruments, design costumes, and end the semester with a live show and radio broadcast on WFMU. Led by Seth Jabour, of rock band Les Savy Fav and former guitarist for Late Night With Seth Meyers 8G Band.

STAYIN’ ALIVE: Survival Skills to Outwit the Zombies
Grades: 3, 4, 5
Description: A STEAM-rich survival skills class for grades 3-5 blending map reading, cryptography, knots, shelter-building, communicating, community-building, and simple first aid—all framed through a playful fictional zombie scenario to give students a silly pretend challenge as they practice skills that build confidence and resilience. Led by Paul Rondeau, BSA Cubmaster, assisted by a Hazel alumnus Life Scout.
